When people ask me what I do for a living, I like to say I am a stay at home mom turned self taught baker who never ever imagined that baking would become a profession. Having a science background and a degree in microbiology I always imagined myself working in a microbiology lab trying to change lives of people living around me. Well, I’ve heard all dreams never come true, but there is some truth when I say I wanted to change lives around me. I did that not my experimenting in the lab but by experimenting in my own kitchen.
I have always enjoyed cooking and trying out new cuisines. It was always my hobby to try out new exciting dishes but I was never a baker. I have enjoyed baking, but had never thought that this hobby would become my passion one day.
My real time baking experience started when we realized our daughter then 2 years old had severe allergies to eggs and nuts among many other food items. It was hard enough traveling with her, attending birthday parties used to be a torture for her and for me. I decided to try baking eggless cakes, which I could carry with me to any given party. It used to work out just fine till she started growing up. Who would choose a simple piece of dull looking cake over an exciting, colorful birthday cake? My journey into the cake world thus started!! My daughter eventually did outgrow her egg allergies but I continued to bake. Baking became somewhat of a passion for me. Even the most exciting vanilla or chocolate cake can get boring after a point. This was the time to experiment new flavors and fillings to give the same old cake a whole new makeover.
